Born in Milan, Ohio and growing up in Port Huron, Michigan, Tomas Edison was the youngest of seven children. He built his own scientific laboratory at the age of ten. As a young man, he was known to not accept seemingly factual information found in text books until he confirmed it on his own.

One of Edison’s most famous legacies was the bitter battle that is often dubbed the “War of the Currents.” This refers to the development of direct and alternating current systems which were both poised to change the use of electricity forever. Edison backed direct current systems, while his rival, Nikola Tesla, supported alternating current systems.

His legacy, though surrounded with a bit of controversy, is still one of the most influential even to this day. His early takes on motion picture cameras, phonographs, and the sustainable electric light bulb is truly significant. Many companies and awards bear his name.

Thomas Edison would pass away on October 18, 1931 at the age of 84. He is still widely revered as one of the most interesting and influential Americans to ever live. His name and likeness are still used in popular culture, as he has been used as a character in novels, movies, comic books, and video games. The interesting history, inventions, scientific contributions, and dramatic history involving Nikola Tesla, make him a true icon. Those with an interest in inventions, science, and American history will truly appreciate the work of Tomas Edison.

Seems like more often now I am seeing a space on the credit card signature slip for a tip, even though the restaurant is a wait in line, get your food yourself, eat it, and dump the tray type of place. Seems like more places are phishing for tips these days.

You do not tip,the only service they are providing is preparing your sandwich,which you are paying for anyway.On that signature line you should write a zero and draw a line through it to show there is no tip included.Alot of places do phish for tips but if they dont do anything special for you i would not give them one its just like giving someone free money for nothing.Hope this helps.

This is an actual piece of thermal tile material that was made in the late 1970s for the Space Shuttle Columbia , the first shuttle to fly into space. Our 1 inch section is available for a limited time only. These sections are only cut from sections in which we could not get a full 1.33 inches (or more) for the larger sizes. We only have a limited amount of thermal tile material and once they’re gone, they’re gone forever Material Background: Thermal tiles are made of a ‘foam glass’ material. Each Space Shuttle contains more than 34,000 separate tiles, each specifically cut for its own location, to protect the Shuttle when reentering the Earth’s atmosphere. Note: This tile material is not from the loss of STS-107. Noble was assigned as Chief of U.S. Air Force Quality Assurance on all NASA contracts at Lockheed Missile and Space Systems in Sunnyvale, California. The main NASA contract at that time was for the production of Space Shuttle tile for the first Space Shuttle to fly in space, Columbia. At that time, Space Shuttle tile was being thrown into a large discard receptacle. There were no strict policies in effect at that time, precluding removal of anything from these receptacles. Noble’s interest in the discarded tile was as an insulating material for a fireplace, so he removed enough material to accomplish this purpose. A few years later, a NASA representative came to Noble’s home to discuss when and how he obtained the discarded Space Shuttle tile. NASA concluded that Noble had obtained the tile legally which could also be sold commercially.This was reaffirmed in a letter from the Inspector General for NASA to Michael Noble in June 22, 1994 letter from George T. Lenehan, Chief Counsel, Office of the Chief Counsel, for Ames Research Center, NASA. The Space Store legally purchased Mr. Noble’s entire thermal tile material stock in July, 2009.
